Upswing in IT job market for permanent positions
The January Hays Quarterly Forecast released Wednesday lists the hottest IT jobs for 2008 with a definite upswing in permanent vacancies. Hays IT director, Peter Noblet, said the new year has arrived with the usual increase in vacancies as organizations determine the staff they require for the next 12 months.
"With the first quarter of the year the traditional time that candidates reassess their career, the majority of vacancies are the result of staff departures, although new jobs are still being created due to additional headcount requirements or the restructuring of roles internally," he said.
"Employers are moving quickly once they identify a candidate they wish to offer a role to, particularly since good candidates will continue to receive multiple offers of employment."
The areas of strongest demand in IT include helpdesk positions with Noblet claiming candidates are offered job within hours of an interview. More>>

Film meanders through Dylan's mind
Todd Haynes' "I'm Not There" is a kaleidoscopic reflection on the life and music of Bob Dylan. The movie is not so much a biography as a fragmented tour through Dylan's various personas and psyches. To support his premise, Haynes has different actors portraying the various fragments of Dylan's life. Thus you get an all-star roster consisting of, among others, Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Richard Gere and Cate Blanchett, taking turns as the many personalities -- public and private -- exhibited by one of the most scrutinized figures in the entertainment industry. The movie has two main drawbacks. First, if you are not familiar with Dylan's life and music, much of what transpires may seem meaningless. More>>
